because it's good for Europe
Economy August 26, 2025
Not long ago, in July of this year, the Unelected Ruler of the EU, President of the European Commission, Her Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, proved once again that there are good deals, bad deals, and disastrous deals—and she is by far the champion of the latter.
Following a trade agreement, Trump agreed to levy a 15% baseline tariff for most EU exports to the US (however, a 25% tariff remains on steel exports). In exchange for this concession, EU countries will be obliged to...
Under the terms of the deal, Brussels will agree to buy, over three years, $750bn (£560bn) worth of oil, gas, nuclear fuel and semi-conductors, including liquified gas, while at the same time agreeing to invest $600bn (£446bn) in the US, a deal that includes purchases of military equipment.
That's not all...
However, Trump retains the ability to increase the tariffs in the future if European countries do not live up to their investment commitments, a senior US administration official told reporters on Sunday evening.

The answer is simple: Ukraine.
Being so invested in the failed project that is Ukraine, the EU will kiss any ass necessary to maintain at least the illusion of security from their Big Brother, the United States of America.
“We’re still hostage to American military and strategic protection with a horribly neuralgic point, which is Ukraine,” said Pascal Lamy, a former EU trade commissioner.
They don't care about the future of Europe, only about their own plans. And these plans include a forever war against Russia via their favorite proxy, Ukraine. Saving face of course, is more important than ever after so many years of open Russophobia.
Von der Leyen declares with naiveté:
The European Union’s refusal to sign a trade agreement with the US would be a ‘celebration for Moscow and Beijing.’
So, in order to make Putin and Xi Jingping cry, Europe will shoot itself in the foot with pride. It sounds like a great strategy.
This is how EU leaders are thinking about the future of Europe.
Working to save the plunging EU economy and avoiding German de-industrialization? Nah...
Solving the refugee crisis across Europe once and for all and securing the borders as they were some years ago? Nah...
Trying to acknowledge the clusterfuck called Ukraine and save the remaining men out there from certain death? Nope!
Being irrelevant in the new socio-political world context? Yes!
It's easier to bring everyone down in the boat called the EU than to admit your mistakes and do something for your citizens.
