Vaccination and dropping case numbers

Covid-19 and the Vaccination programme

 Social   June 3, 2021

In the recent two-three weeks, all the media (at least here in the NL) is continuously publishing articles about the infection numbers getting smaller and smaller and how the vaccines are working beautifully.

Like this one for example:

Well, it could be true that the vaccines are a major contributor to this situation*. The most vaccination took place in the last one- one and a half month (and a lot of people are still waiting for the second shot**). The vaccines seems to require around 2 weeks to be effective, so that might be right on target. But, on the other had, last year in the summer, the numbers were dropping in the same way, and that year was with no vaccination at all.

Luckily, this year COVID will be a thing of the past. But the true test for the whole vaccination program will be the autumn 2021. If the numbers will start rising again, then something is not quite right.

*beside vaccination, there are around 1.7 million people that have natural immunity following the infection

**6.5 million of those were first vaccinations, and 2.8 million were second vaccinations (source).
